“Unmasking Fear with Eloquence”

By Ubong Essien, CSP — Dean, School of Eloquence

There is a masquerade we all fear—its name is public speaking. We avoid it in meetings, decline it at weddings, and excuse ourselves from church presentations. But what happens when we finally unmask this supposed monster?

Behind every fear of public speaking is not incompetence, but misinformation. And often, at the root of our nervousness is not incapacity, but accumulated ignorance and lack of structured guidance.

The journey to eloquence begins when we reframe public speaking—not as a problem to avoid but a skill to engage with. As you grow, confidence is not something that appears magically. It is built. And just like a masquerade, once unmasked through deliberate learning and consistent practice, public speaking is revealed to be a normal, human activity.

You begin to ask yourself, “What was I afraid of all this time?”

The School of Eloquence exists for this very unmasking. To remove fear, layer by layer, with knowledge. To reduce anxiety, bit by bit, with encouragement. And to build confidence, skill by skill, with practice.

So go ahead—unmask the masquerade. Eloquence is what you will find.
