If You Didn’t Rehearse, You’re Not Ready: The Discipline Behind Great Anchoring

By Ubong Essien, CSP

Let us end a myth.

“MC work is natural.”

No.

Great anchoring is rehearsed.

If you did not rehearse transitions, tone shifts, name pronunciations, and opening posture, you are gambling.

Professionals do not gamble with reputation.

Rehearsal Is Structural Intelligence

You rehearse:

  • How you will open.
  • How you will pronounce difficult names.
  • Where you will pause.
  • How you will adjust if something shifts.

Improvisation without preparation is laziness.

Confidence Comes from Familiarity

Stage fright reduces when structure is internalized.

When you rehearse:

Your body relaxes.
Your pacing stabilizes.
Your transitions tighten.

Unrehearsed MCs ramble.

Rehearsed MCs orchestrate.

The Hard Truth

If you “wing it,” you are not professional.

You are hopeful.

And hope is not a strategy.
